Blind Dates

So, I don’t know why I agreed on going to these when I am about to move to California, setup by people who thinks they know someone who might suit me… at least the type of person that they think I am and I wouldn’t normally bother to write these down unless there’s something worth noting which also drew out some strong emotional response out of me.

You materialistic superficial person you!!!

Anyway, I always approach these as opportunities to make a friend, because I am an entrepreneur by nature. So, you’d understand why I am flabbergasted when, after this latest “meeting” while talking to the friend who approach me to arrange this meeting, I learned that there are a few demands by the girl in question: 1. I must have a house 2. I must have a car 3. She will only date me if this is for marriage. She doesn’t even just want to talk to me if I am just interested in her as a friend. So I told our mutual connection to just give it up. (We asians really enjoy taking the indirect route and pass words through other people and just outright deny it when we confront them if this is from the actual person in question, when in fact, it is)

Anyway, talk about an awkward meeting in which her mom was present. Imagine dating a woman but to actually having to please the mom.

So, you’ll excuse me if I use a very materialistic way to judge you as well. You are not a 9 nor a 10 on the beauty scale. Conversation with you is as stale as talking to a sheep and I feel like I am swimming in mud to keep it going. So what made you think that you deserve 1. A house (here it cost $1 mil) and 2. A car (at least $30k) without even showing me your winning personality first.

The extreme one way or another without any kind of getting to know the subject in question first feels to me like a cultural phenomena. I thought the several decades we’ve spent here integrating into the western society might have moderated this attitude somewhat. Apparently I am wrong.

After this, I promptly told our mutual friend that I am a very poor person. That this house doesn’t belong to me and that I am about to sell my car which will get me probably $1k. This should stop every potential future blind date of this sort.
