2006 site review

Site statistic has increased more than I expected ending the year with 475 unique visitors, with 1/4 of it coming from site promotion tools like blog explosion, blog mad or blog soldiers. I’ve gradually stopped using them since I find that visitors from these usually don’t return. The goal for my site, is not for popularity anyway. Google analytics’s result more or less confirms with awstats.

The top content is: fdisk Geek Part I: Hacking the graphic card

Most searched phrase is: Ultracrepidate

Second most searched phrase: Can I use normal rice to make sushi.

Most emotional post: meh

Event that triggered the most changes: Breakup

Amongst the most interesting comment I received is this one. About a girl I once find attractive while working at Nordia. It is worth mentioning because I noticed my strong emotional response to the comment. The post about this comment was downgraded to the comment reply itself. I have evaluated it and deemed it unworthy as a post.
The year passed by like a flash and I am still amazed at how much has happened. Fred’s passing comment on how this year has been the year of change for me ranged true and true as I scroll through the numerous entries. I thought these things had happened 10 years ago.

I dimsissed the comment as being completely ignorant as soon as they mentioned the “rules” of having a blog. This is someone who thinks there should be rules against anything that they don’t like. The capacity for anonymity is part of makes the internet great, but that doesn’t mean that everyone should abide by this and names should never be mentioned.

The funny thing is that there’s nothing wrong with what you wrote. To me, it wasn’t creepy at all because you never bothered her about it. It was something that was hidden inside of you, a thought. You may have published it online, but that was left for someone else to find if they wanted to. Did you actually send her a link to the entry? People don’t have to read these things; you aren’t forcing it on them. As well, you simply state your feelings. Who doesn’t have feelings? If you were stalking her or harrassing her with e-mails, I’d agree that it’s creepy.

It’s obvious that he’s a jealous person who can’t handle the truth when they start attacking you. He tells you to “drop these illusory pursuits”, when you weren’t pursuing her at all. His name isn’t Anonymous, it’s “go fuck yourself”. He goes off on a tirade about things that have nothing to do with his original point about being creepy. It probably makes him feel better.

And then how stupid was it for him to give away both his and her ip addresses? (well, I guess on her end it was her own fault for not copy-and-pasting in a browser) Server logs are such wonderful things.

Strange strange ignorant people.
While I didn’t know that you can track something so far afield, I’m not surprised.
I am surprised that this ‘friend’ not only attacked you, but also sent the link to the girl herself.
Would it not be better to simply leave it quiet? Instead of wrecking her image of a friend she used to have at her old place of work?
Then again, maybe she had taken your post as a compliment as it was, and smacked the silly friend upside the head.

It could have been a girl. Though I can’t see how anyone could respond that way.
It’s just rude.

On the other hand – you didn’t need to scare the friend by telling them that you could track them down to their location – that, especially if Saida is still reading, is a little creepy.

Jeff: The name thing didn’t bother me at all. Because I created the unique Causalien name so it is more traceable than my real name. I’d like to say more, but I think it’s wasted enough of my time already.

Jo: You are right, if I have more understanding of the eight fold path, I wouldn’t even bother with this. But this blog is uncensored, so everything is free for all. It does make me wonder though, what happens when an engineer goes on a rampage? That’d be some interesting research to look up. Look at all the shit that already goes wrong when we focus on making things work.
